Seneca Valley Closes Book on Norwin's Season 21-13

Umbrellas were the fashionable item of the night for fans at Norwin Knights Stadium as a steady rain fell during the final regular season game for the Knights and the visiting Raiders of Seneca Valley. The wet conditions kept the game close and neither team got out to more than a one score advantage, but it is Seneca Valley that claimed the victory 21-13. The Raiders will move on to play in the post season while the Knights will turn their attention to the hardwood and the wrestling mats.

Norwin got on the board first as Carter Breen connected on a 22-yard field goal on the Knights' opening drive. Seneca Valley answered in the second quarter when a botched Norwin punt gave them the ball on the 4-yard line. Jake Mineweaser carried it into the endzone on the next play to put the Raiders on top 7-3 after the PAT kick. But Norwin marched 75 yards to paydirt before the half ended, scoring on a Gianni Rizzo pass to Jake Merlin out of the wildcat formation to give Norwin a 10-7 lead at intermission. 

Seneca Valley jumped back in front on Mineweaser's second rushing touchdown of the game, a 25-yard scamper with 9:06 remaining in the third quarter. The Raiders took the 14-10 lead into the fourth quarter before Carter Breen closed the gap to 14-13 with a 32-yard field goal early in the final quarter. But the Raiders stretched the lead out to 8 points when quarterback Gabe Lawson called his own number with a 22-yard run that ended with him diving inside the pylon with 3:42 left to play. Norwin had a final opportunity to try to tie the game but they turned the ball over on downs before the Raiders ran out the clock from the victory formation. 

Seneca Valley improves to 5-3 in conference, 7-3 overall. Norwin ends their season with a 2-6 conference record, 3-7 overall.
