Hempfield Girls and Greensburg Salem Boys Win 2026 WCCA Bowling Team Championships

Hempfield Area's girls made it three-in-a-row and Greensburg Salem's boys earned their first team title at the 5th Annual Westmoreland County Coaches Association Bowling Championships on Saturday, January 17, at Hillview Lanes in Greensburg.

The Lady Spartans rolled a 2564 three-game series to easily outpace Greater Latrobe (1987) and Franklin Regional (1931). Valley (1860) and Kiski Area (1824) rounded out the top five. Also participating were girls from Jeannette, Yough, Belle Vernon, Penn-Trafford, and Greensburg Salem.

Greensburg Salem opened with a tournament-high 1057 team score in their first game, followed by a 991 in game two, enroute to a 2963 series to win the boys team trophy. Only 18 pins separated the next three spots as Hempfield Area (2752), Belle Vernon (2746), and Franklin Regional (2734) finished ahead of fifth place Valley (2668). Jeannette, Greater Latrobe, Penn-Trafford, Yough and Kiski Area were the remainder of the boys teams that participated.

Hempfield Area also dominated the girls individual medal standings, capturing the top three places. Ashley Bensur followed up her 2025 gold medal to make it two-in-a-row with a 612 series. 2024 champion Amelia Droste was second with a 593, and teammate Clara Carmichael was close behind with 589. Also earning medals were Jeannette's Natalie Christoff (563), Valley's Emmie Diehm (545), Greater Latrobe's Katelyn Kerchner (543), Belle Vernon's Makenzie Seegler (525), Penn-Trafford's Avery Weishorn (479), Greensburg Salem's Kam Hummel (431), and Kiski Area's Sarah Swanger (431).

Brayden Fallon of Franklin Regional paced the boys individual medalists as he rolled the day's high-game of 269 enroute to a 701 series. He joins fellow Panther and 2023 winner Brandon Smith as the first school to have multiple individual boys champions in the 5-year history of the tournament. Behind Fallon, Greensburg Salem's Justice Payne and Hempfield's Area Braylon Johnson both rolled a 651 series, with Payne's high game of 246 serving as the tie-breaker over Johnson's 234. The rest of the medalists were Belle Vernon's Jordan Sisley (647), Jeannette's Logan Bortz (647), Penn-Trafford's Carter Zeminski (642), Valley's Baxter Diehm (636), Greensburg Salem's Zach Carasella (618), Belle Vernon's Kaden Coughanour (612), and Hempfield's Eli Johnson (611).
