Softball - Latrobe vs Yough

Latrobe bats come alive in fourth to beat Yough softball 3-0

Latrobe's Kiley Myers threw 14 strikeouts, and held Yough to 5 hits, as the Lady Wildcats beat the Lady Cougars 3-0 in a non-section game at Latrobe's Graham-Sobota Field. The Lady Wildcats threatened in the first inning, loading the bases with one out, but Yough's Kierra Waywood worked out of trouble on two ground ball outs in the infield. Pitching and defense took over as neither team launched a serious threat until the bottom of the fourth. After opening with a walk and a single, Latrobe got on the board when Yough right fielder Sammie McGhee couldn't handle Kiley Myers' fly ball, with Alaura McHenry and Rebecca Tatone scoring on an errant throw to the plate. Jordan Novak, running for Myers, scored on Mia Schweizer's single to center field to complete the scoring for both teams on the day. Yough put a pair of runners in scoring position with one out in the sixth, but Latrobe's Myers pitched out of the inning, twice retiring the potential tying run on strikeouts. 

Myers pitched the full 7 innings for Latrobe for the win. Waywood pitched the complete game in the losing effort for Yough, giving up 6 hits and recording 5 strikeouts. Both pitchers held the opposition to 2 walks. Schweizer had two hits for Latrobe. Waywood had a pair of hits for Yough.
