Highlands outscores Derry 15-3 in five innings to win their WPIAL softball game at Derry on Friday, May 04, 2018.

Highlands opened the scoring early when Tori Lohler drove in Emily Cochran in the top of the first inning. The Golden Rams’ Kylie Zourelias then doubled off of Derry starting pitcher Alexis Jellison to drive in Rachel Blackburn making the score 2-0 where it would stay until the second inning.

Highlands’ Anna Holsing drove in Bailey Beacom for the third run in the top of the 2nd inning making it 3-0 Highlands.

Highlands’ Natalie Gentile doubled in the top of the third inning before scoring on a sacrifice fly hit by Kylie Zourelias, and the Golden Rams extended their lead to 4-0 over the Lady Trojans. Morgan Oravitz’s sacrifice fly scored Tori Lohler to add a fifth run. The Golden Rams were not done scoring in the third inning yet as
Anna Holsing’s single brought home Joie Beacom, and Highlands took a 6-0 lead into the bottom of the third inning.

Derry’s Maddie Berger opened the scoring for the Lady Trojans when Gianna Copelli drove her in with a double in the bottom of the third inning. Copelli then scored when Alanna Meloy singled off Highlands’ starting pitcher Emily Cochran making the score 6-2. Allison Baum then drove in Kamryn Kelly cutting Highlands’ lead in half to 6-3.

Highlands’ batters Tori Lohler, Joie Beacom, Bailey Beacom, Morgan Oravitz, Rachel Blackburn and Natalie Gentile all hit RBI singles scoring seven of the nine runs the Golden Rams put up on Derry in an explosive fourth inning. Derry starting pitcher Alexis Jellison was pulled from the mound and replaced by Gianna Copelli. Copelli walked Tori Lohler with the bases loaded scoring Emily Cochran and then gave up a
sacrifice fly to score Rachel Blackburn, which ended the scoring and gave Highlands a 15-3 lead going into the bottom of the fourth inning.

Derry was unable to score any runs in the fourth, and a scoreless fifth by both teams ended the game with a final score of Highlands 15, Derry 3.

Highlands pitcher Emily Cochran registered four strikeouts and gave up one walk in the victory.
