Zambruno Sisters Times Three = Team Golf Title for GCC

Greensburg Central Catholic's Meghan Zambruno fired even par 37, and sisters Abby and Ella shot 39 and 41 respectably, as the trio led the Lady Centurions to the team championship at the 3rd Annual Westmoreland County Coaches Association Girls Golf Championship at Champion Lakes Golf Club. Meghan offset a double bogey on the fourth hole and a bogey on six with birdies on the second, fifth, and seventh holes on the way to top individual honors. All five members of the GCC team finished in the top ten, with Hannah Norton finishing fifth with 42, and Angelika Dewicki seventh with 47.

Penn-Trafford's Lauren Barber won a scorecard playoff for fourth with 42, and teammate Ava Green was sixth with 46. Other top-ten medal winners were Franklin Regional's Baylee Horvath with 47 for eighth and Norwin's Mallory Donofrio ninth at 49 in a scorecard playoff over Olivia Ledbetter of Southmoreland in tenth.

This is the first year the WCCC awarded a team trophy in the girls championship, taking the top 4 scores from each team. GCC's score of 159 topped second place Penn-Trafford at 190 and third place Franklin Regional at 201.

Next week it's the boys turn to hit the links for their WCCA Championship as they tee it up for an 18-hole event at the Latrobe Elks course on Thursday.
