Belle Vernon races past Greensburg Salem to a 48-14 victory in their WPIAL Class 4A Big 8 Conference Contest

Belle Vernon running back Mason Pascoe scored touchdowns on his first two carries against Greensburg Salem during their WPIAL Class 4A Big 8 Conference contest at James Weir Stadium in Belle Vernon on Friday night Sept. 28, 2018. Pascoe raced to the end zone untouched on a 47-yard touchdown jaunt to open the scoring at 11:41 of the first quarter. A few minutes later he hopped over a Greensburg Salem defender near the line of scrimmage and then broke into the secondary sprinting away from Golden Lion defenders 70-yards to the end zone.  The Leopards took a 14-0 lead over Greensburg Salem with 8:30 left in the opening quarter. Pascoe scored his third touchdown of the game when he found his way into the end zone on a 6-yard run in the beginning of the second quarter. Fellow running back Larry Callaway dived into the end zone on a 2-yard touchdown run and the Leopards took a 28-0 lead over the Golden Lions. Greensburg Salem's Dajauhn Hertzog intercepted a pass by Belle Vernon quarterback Jared Hartman in the second quarter to put the Golden Lions into a scoring opportunity. That was when Hertzog caught a 15-yard touchdown pass from Greensburg Salem quarterback Trent Patrick to get the visiting Golden Lions on the scoreboard.  Belle Vernon looked to it's speedy running back Mason Pascoe to answer that score which he did with his fourth touchdown of the evening. This one a 48 yard sprint up the middle of the field to the end zone. Both teams headed to the locker rooms with a 35-7 halftime score. Pascoe finished the night with 248 yards. Leopard running back Larry Callaway added a 16-yard touchdown run in the third quarter making the score 41-7. Golden Lion running back Adam Cuccia scored the only other Greensburg Salem touchdown on a run in the third quarter.Belle Vernon's Nolan Labuda closed out the scoring when he hauled in a fourth quarter touchdown pass from Hartman. Belle Vernon improved their record to 4-1 and Greensburg Salem fell to 2-4.
