Yough earns first victory of season with 25-0 shut out  of Uniontown in WPIAL Week 1 action.

Yough quarterback Gamal Marballie threw two touchdowns and ran for another while leading the Cougars past the Uniontown Red Raiders 25-0 during their Week 1 WPIAL Class 3A Big East matchup.

The Cougars defense swarmed to the Red Raiders ball carriers all night and pitched a shutout in front of their fans on a warm summer night at Cougar Mountain Stadium in Herminie.

Marballie kept the ball himself and scored the first points of the game with an 8-yard touchdown run at 8:41 of the first quarter.

The score was 6-0 after the Cougars missed the extra point attempt.

The first quarter came to a close with a score of 6-0.

Yough wasted little time in the second quarter before senior running back Reno Ustazewski rumbled 57 yards after hauling in a screen pass from Marballie to score, and the Cougars took a double-digit lead over the visiting Red Raiders.

Yough failed to convert a two-point conversion and the score was 12-0 at 11:44 of the second quarter.

Cougar senior wide receiver Russell Pytlak hauled in a beautiful highlight reel worthy one-handed pass to score a touchdown from 17-yards out on throw from Marballie and the home team took a 18-0 lead over the visiting Red Raiders.

After Yough missed anther extra point, Uniontown senior returner Torry Robinson weaved in and out of Yough defenders and returned the kickoff to the end zone. However the touchdown return was nullified by a penalty and the score remained 18-0 as the first half ended.

The second half started with a couple of possession changes.

Then Uniontown’s most promising drive of the night was stopped when Marballie intercepted Uniontown quarterback Craig Soltis.

After a couple more possession changes, Yough senior Nate Wilkins blocked a punt by Uniontown punter Clay Berkabile that was quickly recovered by fellow senior Dom Ofchinick deep in Red Raider territory.

The Cougars capitalized on the turnover when junior C.J. Waldier scored from a yard out extending the Cougar lead to 24-0.

Yough senior kicker Hadley Sleith added the final point of the evening when she kicked the extra point, capping off Yough’s scoring at 25.

Yough junior Austin Caudill recovered a fumble by Uniontown within the last minute of the fourth quarter and the game ended with an impressive 25-0 win Yough win.

Uniowntown fell to 0-2 and Yough earned their first victory of the young season and now have a record of 1-1.
