GCC Boys Complete Season Sweep of Aquinas with 86-65 Senior Night Win

Greensburg Central Catholic outscored Aquinas Academy in all four quarters as they ground out a solid 86-65 win on GCC Senior Night, in the opening game of a boys and girls section doubleheader on Thursday, January 23, in Carbon.

Aquinas kept up with the Centurions early on, trailing only 19-17 after one quarter. Aquinas tied the game at 23 with 6:40 to play in the second, but it was as close as they would get for the rest of the night. A quick GCC rally in the next 90 seconds, capped by a Nate Ward 3-pointer, put the Centurions out front 30-23. GCC never looked back from there as they opened up a 45-36 lead at the end of the first half. 

Third quarter belonged to GCC's Brevan Williams and Aquinas' Vinnie Cugini. Williams scored 15 of the Centurions' 24 third quarter points, and Cugini 14 of the 19 put up for Aquinas, as the Centurions stretched their lead to 69-55 after three quarters. The final quarter was all GCC as they outscored the Crusaders 17-10 in closing out their ninth conference win.

Brevan Williams led the Centurions on the night with 34 points, while Tom Erdley and Christian McGowan each added 11 to the winning effort. Vinnie Cugina led all scorers with 39 points, and teammate Gabe Vangura added 11 for Aquinas. 

Next up for GCC (12-4, 9-1) is a non-conference game with Derry on 1/26 in the Shootout at Seton Hill University. Aquinas Academy (5-12, 2-8) hosts Propel Andrew Street on 1/28.
