Mt. Pleasant shuts out Southmoreland 2-0 in WPIAL Boys Soccer Action
Mt. Pleasant shut out rival Southmoreland 2-0 in their WPIAL Class 2A Section 3 match on Sept. 24, 2020 at Viking Stadium in Mt. Pleasant.
Mt. Pleasant senior midfielder Lucas Toohey opened the scoring at the 29:23 mark of the first period when he fired a goal past Southmoreland senior goalkeeper Matthew Rodriguez.
Both teams held each other scoreless for the remainder of the first half, which ended 1-0.
Mt. Pleasant senior goalkeeper John Menefee and the Viking defenders shut out the visiting Scotties with a dominating effort.
The Scottie offense struggled to mount many attacks on the home team and the Vikings were in total control for most of the game even if the scoreboard didn't show it.
Mt. Pleasant junior forward Braden Heiser scored with only 20 seconds left in the game to make the score 2-0, putting the game out of reach for the visiting Scotties.
Mt. Pleasant improved their season record to 5-0 and Southmoreland suffered their fourth loss of the season. Their season record is 1-4.
