Latrobe Boys Win Home Opener 76-60 over McKeesport

The Latrobe Wildcats broke open an evenly contested first half with 26 points in the third quarter to beat McKeesport 76-60 in the home opener at Greater Latrobe High School on Tuesday, January 12.

The Wildcats had the upper hand in the first quarter, 17-14, despite putting the visiting Tigers into the bonus before the second quarter started. The Tigers closed the gap only slightly in the second quarter, with the Wildcats taking a 34-32 lead to the locker room at halftime. Brison Kisan and Robert Robinson combined for 24 of McKeesport's 32 first half points, with Kisan having 13 and Robertson 11. Frank Newill had 19 first half points for Latrobe.

Latrobe came out hot in the third quarter, outscoring McKeesport 26-16 to build a double-digit lead that they would maintain for the remainder of the game. The Cats held Kisan to only 4 second half points, and Robinson to 3, while Landon Butler scored 15 for Latrobe as they cruised to a 76-60 victory for their first conference win of the season.

Latrobe had three players in double figures, Frank Newill with game-high honors at 25, Landon Butler with 19, and Ryan Sickenberger with 14. McKeesport was led by Brison Kisan's 17 points and Robert Robinson's 14, while Traverese Rowe chipped in for 12. Latrobe was 11-of-16 from the free throw line while McKeesport finished with 15 points on 26 attempts from the charity stripe.

Both teams will continue with Class 5A Section 3 play on Friday. Latrobe (1-1 in conference, 1-2 overall) will visit Gateway while McKeesport (0-1 in conference, 2-1 overall) hosts Franklin Regional.
