Mount Pleasant Boys Breeze to 66-40 Win over Southmoreland

Only 24 hours removed from the Mount Pleasant and Southmoreland girls battle on the hardwood, it was the boys turn to fight for bragging rights over their boundary rivals. The Vikings and Scotties boys roundballers tipped off on Mount Pleasant's court for the first of their two scheduled matchups in Class 4A Section 3 play on Friday, January 15. But unlike the day before when the Southmoreland girls prevailed, Mount Pleasant's boys carried their school to victory, beating the visiting Scotties 66-40.

The Vikings got out of the gate quickly, scoring 9 unanswered points before Ty Keffer finally answered with a field goal for the Scotties midway through the first quarter. Keffer continued to score, racking up all 10 of Southmoreland's first quarter points, but it was no match for the 20 that Mount Pleasant put up, with Jacob Bungard scoring 7 for the Vikings.

Southmoreland got five players into the scoring column in the second quarter, however it was only good for 9 total points, while Mount Pleasant added 15 to pad their lead at halftime to 35-19. Jonas King had 8 of the Viking's second quarter total, including a two-hand dunk that lit up the small crowd in attendance.

Mount Pleasant put the game out of reach in the third quarter with a 23-11 scoring advantage, led by Nathan Kubasky's 14. With the outcome already decided, both teams got their benches involved in the final quarter, as each team put up 10 points to make the final score 66-40.

Nathan Kubasky led the Vikings with 20 points, hitting 5 times from beyond the 3-point arc, and Jonas King was right behind him with 18. Ty Keffer led the Scotties with 21 points.

Both teams are back in action with conference play on 1/19. Mount Pleasant (2-0, 2-2) travels to Uniontown while Southmoreland (0-2, 0-3) will host Yough.
