Latrobe Girls Top Franklin Regional 51-38 in Season Tipoff

Greater Latrobe overcame a first half deficit with a strong performance on both ends of the court in the second half, beating Franklin Regional 51-38 on the opening night of the Covid-19 delayed girls high school basketball season on Friday, January 8, at Latrobe.

An evenly matched opening quarter saw the visiting Lady Panthers open a 11-10 lead over the Lady Wildcats, which they extended to 26-22 as the teams switched ends of the court at halftime.

But Latrobe took over in the second half, outscoring the Panthers 15-4 in the third quarter and 14-8 in the fourth for the win.

The Wildcats scored only 2 more field goals than the Panthers in the game, but capitalized on a 14-for-21 performance from the foul line for the double-digit victory margin. Franklin Regional was 5-of-14 from the charity stripe on the night.
