Baldwin Spoils Hempfield Homecoming Party 28-0

A good crowd filled Hempfield Area's Spartan Stadium under threatening skies, as the Spartans celebrated homecoming against Baldwin on Friday, October 8. The precipitation held off, but the visiting Highlanders still rained on Hempfield's party, shutting out the Spartans 28-0 in the first game played on Hempfield's new turf field.

Hempfield's troubles started on their first possession when Baldwin blocked the Spartans' punt, which was recovered in the endzone by Keith Mincin, putting the Highlanders up 7-0 following Ashton Nort's PAT kick at the 9:31 mark in the first quarter.

Hempfield's next possession came to an early halt when Nicholas Petrilli intercepted a pass from Jacob Phillips, returning it deep into Hempfield territory. That set up the second Baldwin score, a touchdown pass from John Kozar to Isaiah King. Nort's kick made the score 14-0 with 8:00 remaining to play in the first quarter.

A Baldwin field goal attempt with 4:08 to go in the second quarter failed, and the teams left for the locker rooms with the score 14-0 at halftime.

Leah Kern was crowned 2021 Hempfield Area homecoming queen during halftime ceremonies.

A scoreless third quarter led to what was turning into a scoreless fourth when Andrew Sharp got loose on a long touchdown run for Baldwin at the 6:12 mark, with Nort booting the extra point.

Baldwin topped it off with one more at 2:07 remaining as Mincin scampered in from long distance for the touchdown. Nort's kick made the final score 28-0 in favor of the Highlanders.

Hempfield (2-5, 0-4) hosts Central Catholic next week while Baldwin (2-5, 2-2) is home to play Seneca Valley.
