Derry Area's Hunter Jurica wins WCCA Boys Golf Championship

Derry Area's Hunter Jurica carded a 2-under-par 70 to win the 2022 Westmoreland County Coaches Association Boys Golf Championship on Friday, September 2, at Latrobe Elks Golf Club.

Jurica, who at one point in his round was 4 shots under par, finished 3 shots clear of the field and was the only player to finish the day in red figures. The senior finished 7 shots better than his round in 2021 when he medaled in 10th place with a score of 77.

Defending champion Nick Turowski of Penn-Trafford and Franklin Regional's Nolan Shilling both finished at 1-over 73, with Turowski claiming the silver medal in a scorecard playoff.

Rounding out the top ten, with scorecard playoffs breaking any ties were: Jason Buczak (Kiski Area) 75, Rogan Maloney (Belle Vernon) 76, Alex Graham (Norwin) and Dom Cerilli (Norwin) with 77, Jorge Rodriquez GCC) and Wade Boyle (GCC) with 78, and Antonio Hauser (Derry Area) at 79.

The Class AAA team title went to Norwin with a score of 403. Franklin Regional and Penn Trafford followed tied at 406, with the Panthers claiming second place in a scorecard playoff.

In Class AA, Greensburg Central Catholic recorded the low team score of the event at 396. Derry Area was second at 403 and Belle Vernon finished third at 417.

Athletes from Norwin, Franklin Regional, Penn-Trafford, Kiski Area, Greater Latrobe, Hempfield Area, Greensburg Central Catholic, Derry Area, Belle Vernon, Greensburg Salem, Mount Pleasant, Ligonier Valley, Southmoreland, Kiski School, Burrell, and Valley participated in the event.
