Hempfield Tip-Off Tournament - Day 1

Penn Trafford,Franklin Regional and Seneca Valley open the Hempfield tip-off tournament with victories.

Six local teams opened the 2017 boy’s basketball season by playing in Hempfield’s tip-off tournament on Friday,Dec. 8.

In the opening game of the evening, Franklin Regional’s Nate Leopold and Hunter Stonecheck each scored 17 points to lead the Panthers to a 67-55 win over Belle Vernon.

In the second game of the evening, Penn Trafford’s Kevin Stinelli and Sean Kelly each scored 15 points as they led the Warriors to a 71-41 victory over Greensburg Central Catholic.

And in the night’s final game, Seneca Valley won a thriller over the host team Hempfield with a come from behind 47-45 victory. The Raiders were led by David Ritchie, who scored 18 points. Hempfield’s Braden Brose led Hempfield, scoring 15 points in the game.
