Hempfield Tip-Off Tournament - Day 2

Belle Vernon, Seneca Valley, and Franklin Regional post victories at Hempfield Tourney Day 2 

Boys basketball action continued on the second day of the Hempfield Tip-off Tournament at Spartan Fieldhouse. 

In the opening game, Belle Vernon opened a big lead over Greensburg Central Catholic and never looked back as they cruised to a 96-66 victory. Jared Hartman and Bryce Washington led the Leopards with 18 points with Joe Sabolek scoring 17. Geoffrey Helm had 28 points for the Centurions.

In the second game between Penn-Trafford and Seneca Valley, neither team let the other get more than a field goal or two ahead, playing to a 38-38 score at the half. The second half played out the same way before Seneca Valley took advantage of a Warriors turnover in the final seconds and held on to claim a 70-67 victory.  Sean Kelly led the Warriors with 23 points, Zach Rocco added 17. David Ritchie had 21 for Seneca Valley. 

Hempfield jumped out to a quick early lead over Franklin Regional and took a 28-23 lead to the locker room at halftime. The Panthers battled back in the second half and the teams fought to a 51-all tie at the end of regulation time. Franklin Regional held a 63-60 lead in the final seconds of overtime as the Spartans 3-point attempt by Braden Brose missed to give the Panthers the win. The Panthers' Nate Leopold topped all scorers with 22. Reed Hipps had 20 for the Spartans.
