Jeannette Beats Farrell 17-6, Sets WPIAL Wins Record,  Earns Trip To Championship Game

Harmony, Pa. - Jeannette football marked off two big items on their 2017 season to-do list with their 17-6 win over Farrell in the PIAA Class A semifinal game. They surpassed New Castle to become the winningest team in WPIAL history with their 735th victory. And they earned a return trip to the state title game in Hershey, the site of their 2007 championship win.  

Both teams came out running, trading possessions and battling it out without scoring for most of the first half. Jeannette finally broke the ice with a long Robert Kennedy touchdown pass reception from Seth Howard with 16 seconds remaining until halftime. Neither team scored in the third quarter as the Jayhawks held onto a slim 7-0 lead. Jeannette scored again early in the fourth quarter on a Tre Cunningham 27-yard field goal to make it 10-0. The Jayhawks iced the game on Kennedy's 13-yard touchdown run with 2:12 left to play, making it 17-0 on Cunningham's PAT kick. Farrell ran back the ensuing kickoff, failing to convert the 2-point conversion, and set up to run the onside kick while down 17-6. Jeannette closed it out by cleanly handling the kick, converting a first down in the final minute, and running out the clock for the win. Jeannette will meet Indiana County's Homer-Center squad in the state championship next Thursday at 1 PM at Hersheypark Stadium.
