Girls Soccer - Latrobe vs Norwin

Norwin blanked Latrobe 5-0 in WPIAL Class 4A section 3 Girl’s Soccer action.

A stellar defensive performance by the Norwin Lady Knights kept the Latrobe Lady Wildcats off the scoreboard at Rossi Field on Wednesday night Oct. 3, 2018. The WPIAL Class 4A Section 3 Girls Soccer match was played under the lights on a very warm autumn evening. Both teams held each other scoreless through the first 17 minutes of the match. Norwin sophomore midfielder Lacey Bernick notched the first goal of the evening when she scored on Latrobe goal keeper Lillian Jones on what turned out to be the game-winning goal. Norwin was not done scoring for the evening and less than four minutes later they took a 2-0 lead when Katelyn Kauffman scored. Then two minutes later Norwin senior forward Lexi Gray drove the ball past Jones at 17:57 of the first half and the Lady Knights took a 3-0 lead over the home team. Norwin freshman Riley Morningstar started the game in goal for the Lady Knights and played till the halftime intermission. The score remained 3-0 at halftime as both teams gathered with their coaches. Sophomore Liz Waszkiewicz entered the game at goal tender in the second half for the Lady Knights. Norwin extended their lead to 4-0 at 30:55 of the second half when junior defender Eva Frankovic scored on Jones. Norwin’s Lexi Gray added her second goal of the night at 19:19 in the second half and the Lady Knights cruised to a 5-0 shut out of the Lady Wildcats, beating them for the second time this season. Norwin remains unbeaten in conference play, notching their ninth conference win and improved their overall record to 11-1. Latrobe suffered their sixth conference loss and fell to 2-9 overall.
