Jeannette Boys Win 56-47 Over Non-Conference Rival GCC

Jeannette and Greensburg Central Catholic no longer play in the same conference, but that doesn't stop the two longtime rivals, separated by five miles, from getting together to play a friendly game in just about any sport whenever they can. Their Saturday afternoon December 22nd boys basketball matchup in the recently renovated gym at GCC was the second half of an earlier doubleheader contest between the girls teams. While the GCC girls ran away from Jeannette in their game, the Jeannette boys held off the Centurions in a spirited, close game that ended with the Jayhawks on top 56-47. 

The game was close throughout, and both teams held leads in the final quarter. Jeannette held a 15-11 lead after the opening quarter, with the Centurions closing the gap slightly, 26-23, at the half. Jeannette maintained their 3-point margin at 43-40 as the third quarter closed and the teams headed to the final frame. GCC stepped up the pressure in the fourth as they took their first lead since the second quarter at 45-43 with just over 5 minutes remaining, but the Jayhawks quickly fought back on top and padded the lead in the closing minutes as GCC failed to match them on scores. Jeannette outscored GCC 11-0 down the stretch to pick up the 56-47 win. 

AJ Sharp and Jackson Pruitt topped the Jayhawks with 12 points, as Seth Howard added 10 for the victors. GCC was led by Ryan Bisignani with 12 and Geoff Helm with 11. 

Jeannette moves their record to 5-2, and the Centurions go into Christmas break with a 4-3 record.
