Westmoreland County Coaches Association Holds Inaugural Boys Basketball Showcase

The Westmoreland County Coaches Association held their inaugural boys basketball showcase event on Saturday, Dec. 15, 2018 at Hempfield Area High School. Fourteen teams participated in the event, which was not a tournament format but rather an opportunity to see each team take on another Westmoreland County team in a single regulation basketball game. The showcase was born out of the success of the WCCA Summer Basketball Shootout events held the past two years in July, where each team competed against several opponents in games under modified timing and scoring rules.

The basketball showcase is the newest of several events held throughout the year by the WCCA, which include championships in golf, cross country, wrestling, swimming and diving, track and field, and the Foothills Classic all-star football game and 7-on-7 competition. Revenue raised by the WCCA through attendance at sponsored events is used to fund scholarships for student athletes. 

The basketball showcase consisted of four games played on the Hempfield Fieldhouse court and three games played on the Old Gym court. Results, along with selected photos from the games at the Hempfield Fieldhouse, are listed below.
