NCAA Womens Basketball - PSAC Quarterfinal - IUP vs Seton Hill

Seton Hill Women Fall in PSAC Quarterfinals with 67-52 Loss to IUP

Seton Hill University Women's Basketball saw their PSAC tournament hopes come to an end only two days after their first ever tournament win, falling to top seed IUP 67-52 in a quarterfinal matchup at Indiana University of Pennsylvania's Ed Fry Arena at the Kovalchick Athletic Complex. Seton Hill fell behind quickly from the opening tip as the Griffins had a hard time finding the hoop while IUP built an early lead. The Griffins settled down and battled back as the first quarter closed, trailing the Crimson Hawks by only 5. IUP built upon their lead in the second quarter, shooting 58% from the field including 2-for-2 behind the arc, to take a 35-21 halftime lead into the locker room. Seton Hill fought their way back into the game in the third quarter, outscoring IUP 19-16 as the quarter closed. But the Crimson Hawks held their ground as Seton Hill closed to single digits, then padded their lead by outscoring the Griffins down the stretch and pick up the win.

IUP spread the scoring around, with four players in double figures. Megan Smith led the Crimson Hawks with 16 points, followed by Brittany Robinson and Carolyn Appleby with 14 each, and Lauren Wolosik adding 10.  Greensburg Central Catholic grad Appleby also crossed the 1000 career points plateau during the game.  Cheyenne Trest led Seton Hill with 10 points followed by Jenna Kaufman with 9. Alexandra Hay grabbed 9 rebounds to go along with 8 points. Halie Torris and Katie Nolan also chipped in 8 points for the Griffins.

Seton Hill falls to 20-10 on the season and must wait to find out their fate as the NCAA tournament selections are made. IUP advances to play Millersville in the PSAC Final Four on Saturday.
