Baseball - Norwin vs Derry

Norwin Baseball Breezes to 19-5 Win over Derry

Norwin didn't blink as Derry Area scored 3 runs in the top of the first inning. The Knights simply responded by putting an 8 on the board in their own half of the frame enroute to a 19-5 win over the Trojans in 5 innings on their home diamond at Norwin High School.

Derry sent seven batters to the plate in the first, but the Knights pitching trio of Derek Turcovski, William Kerston, and Javier Rosado-Guindin faced only 16 Trojans in total over the next 4 innings, as Turcovski picked up the win. The Knights sent 13 batters to the plate in their high-scoring half of the first, sending the Trojans to the bullpen after only two outs in the inning.

Turcovski gave up the only walk for the Knights staff, who combined to hold the Trojans to 6 hits on the day. Derry pitching was troubled by control problems, giving up 13 walks to go along with 9 Knights' hits. Dominic Jellison, who started for the Trojans and took the loss, was backed up on the mound by Nico Beatrice, Ryan Polinsky, Zack Karaschak, and Jordan Baum.

Karaschak had the game's only home run with his 4th inning solo blast over the right field fence. Owen Sabol had a double for the Knights. Strong gusty winds made fly balls a challenge for both teams, with several balls dropping into play on muffed catches.
