2018 WCCA Track and Field Championships

Burrell girls, Norwin girls, Derry Area boys, and Hempfield Area boys take home team honors at WCCA Track and Field Championships

The Westmoreland County Coaches Association held their annual Track and Field Championships on Saturday, April 28, 2018, at Municipal Stadium in Latrobe. Overcast skies and light rain at the start of the day gave way to puffy clouds and afternoon sun along with gusty winds for the afternoon events.

Several new records were set on the track. Hempfield Area's Bailey Traczynski set a new stadium and meet record in the Girls 100 Meter Hurdles at 14.73, breaking the records of 14.86 previously set by Mt. Pleasant's Taylor Funk in 2008. Hempfield's Eudel Moreta's 21.78 in the Boys 200 Meter Dash also set two new records. Moreta broke the previous WCCA meet record of 22.52 set in 2015 by Andrey Bolton Monessen, and the stadium record of 22.01 set by Ayden Owens of North Allegheny in 2016. Zakharee Williams of Latrobe ran a 22.32 in the same event, which also got in under the previous meet record time. Greater Latrobe's Boys 4x100 Meter Relay team of Joseph Piper, Zakharee Williams, Mitchel Carl, and Anthony Fannie set a new meet record at 43.15, breaking the previous record of 43.28 set by Hempfield Area in 2011.

Team honors on the girls side went to Burrell for AA and Norwin for AAA. The Derry Area boys picked up the AA trophy and Hempfield's boy topped class AAA.
