Softball - Southmoreland vs Mount Pleasant

Mount Pleasant softball tunes up for playoffs with 7-2 win over neighbor Southmoreland

Mount Pleasant put Southmoreland in a hole early behind the pitching of starter Carolyn Alincic and Meadow Uncapher, then cruised to a 7-2 road victory at Southmoreland. The Lady Vikings got on the board in the second inning when Mary Smithnosky singled to drive in Haylie Brunson, and Courtney Poulich scored on Alyssa Keslar's double. Mount Pleasant added three more in the third with RBI singles from Chloe Poulich, Haylie Brunson, and Courtney Poulich. Southmoreland broke up the shutout in the bottom of the fifth when Lexi Klatt singled and stole second, scoring on Abby Fullem's double to center field. The Scotties added another run in the sixth when Charity Henderson reached on an error, eventually scoring on a ground out by Faith Miller. The Vikings closed out the scoring on a pair of runs with two outs in the seventh. 

Haylie Brunson had 3 hits for Mount Pleasant with Courtney Poulich and Alyssa Keslar adding a pair. Keslar has a double and 2 RBIs for the Vikings. Abby Fullem and Faith Miller each had an RBI for Southmoreland. Fullem had a double and Klatt stole a base for the Scotties. Southmoreland catcher Lexi Klatt caught two Vikings runners stealing.  

Meadow Uncapher recorded the win on the mound as the Lady Vikings bumped their record to 15-0 overall, with the non-conference game between the two adjoining school districts acting as a tune-up for the upcoming WPIAL playoffs. The loss moved the Scotties' overall record to 7-6. Both teams have another non-section game scheduled for Thursday; Mount Pleasant hosts Yough, while Southmoreland will host Monesson.
