Fans Pick our Game Coverage in 2nd Annual Week Zero Football Poll  

With less than ten days until the official first day of high school football practice in Pennsylvania, it's time to start thinking about where we'll begin our sports coverage for the 2018-2019 school year. Many local football teams elect the option of playing a regulation contest rather than a scrimmage on the weekend of August 24-25, which is commonly known as Week Zero. It's a great opportunity for neighboring schools in different classifications to keep long-standing rivalries alive with a game that determines bragging rights for the next year. Westmoreland County has several of these exciting border battles on tap for Week Zero, and as we did last year, we're going to let the fans vote to determine where our cameras will go. 

There are five Week Zero games scheduled this year that involve a pair of Westmoreland County teams playing each other. The two games we will cover will be determined by the number of votes cast for each contest in our Twitter poll. Unfortunately Twitter only allows four possible choices for polls, so we have to break the voting over two different polls, an elimination round and a final round. By virtue of having the highest vote total in last year's Week Zero poll, we are giving the Hempfield at Greensburg Salem game a bye into the final round poll. Their game will match up in the finals against the 3 games that receive the most votes in the elimination round poll, which will include Derry Area at Greater Latrobe, Penn-Trafford at Norwin, Mt Pleasant at Southmoreland, and Valley at Burrell. The elimination round poll will begin Sunday, August 5 and conclude Saturday, August 11. Final round poll voting will begin Sunday, August 12 for one week with the top two voted games receiving game coverage on our site for August 24 games. Almost 1000 fans voted in last year's poll, which was very close until the final hours. With Week Zero games marking the start of our second full season of sport coverage, and many more fans and followers of our sports coverage, we expect a big turnout in voting this season.

• 2nd highest votes in Elimination Round
• 3rd highest votes in Elimination Round
