Girls Basketball - Latrobe vs Penn-Trafford

Latrobe Girls Hold Lead Despite 4th Quarter Penn-Trafford Rally to Win 47-43  

Latrobe's girls took an 11-point lead into the final quarter, then had to go to work defending a late Penn-Trafford rally to hold on for a 47-43 Class 5A Section 3 win at home. Both teams had won 3 times and endured losses to Oakland Catholic, Woodland Hills, and Penn Hills in conference play, so the game would determine sole possession of fourth place in the section.

Latrobe led 13-7 after the opening quarter and extended their lead to 10 as the halftime horn sounded with the score 27-17. Following a 13-12 scoring advantage in the third, it looked like Latrobe could just maintain course for the final 8 minutes and cruise home to victory. But the Lady Warriors still had some fight left in them, as they put up 14 points to 7 for the Wildcats, only to have their comeback fall short as the horn sounded.

The Lady Wildcats were led by Carly Augustine's 12 points, followed by Anna Rafferty and Rachel Ridilla, both with 10. Kenzie Powell topped Penn-Trafford with 11, as Bella Long and Reaghan Panza each added 10.

Latrobe's win puts them in 4th place in the section at 4-3, with a 8-3 overall record. Penn-Trafford lands the 5th place position in the section at 3-4, with their overall record at 6-7. Both teams are back in action Thursday with Latrobe hosting 5th place Albert Gallatin. It won't get any easier for Penn-Trafford as they'll face section leading and 6-0 Penn-Hills at home.
