Southmoreland Girls Basketball Wins 5th in a Row, Beats Belle Vernon 45-27

Southmoreland bumped their win streak to 5 in girls basketball, holding Belle Vernon to single digits in all four quarters, winning 45-27 in front of the home crowd in the Southmoreland High School gym. 

The Scotties started the game on a 12-0 run before Rachel Wobrak drained a 3-pointer to put the Leopards on the board under the 3-minute mark of the opening quarter. Southmoreland led 16-5 after one quarter and 22-13 at the half. The Scotties turned up the heat in the third, with 6 players chipping in for 16 points, as Belle Vernon trailed 38-22 heading to the final frame. Sarah Pisula scored 6 of the Scotties' final 7 points down the stretch as the Southmoreland defense held the Leopard to 5 in picking up the 45-27 conference win. 

Maggie Moore had a double-double, leading all scorers with 12 in addition to grabbing 13 rebounds. Sarah Pisula added 10 points for the Scotties. Rachel Wobrak had a third of Belle Vernon's total points, finishing with 9. 

Southmoreland improves to 5-1 in Class 4A section 3 play, 11-2 overall. Belle Vernon's record moves to 4-2 in section, 7-5 overall.
