Norwin's Jacob Tarosky and GCC's Corinn Brewer Top the Field at WCCA Cross Country Championship

Norwin's Jacob Tarosky and Greensburg Central Catholic's Corinn Brewer outpaced the field as each claimed a gold medal in the 2019 Westmoreland County Coaches Association Cross Country Championship on October 9, 2019, at the Westmoreland County Community College course in Youngwood.

Tarosky, a first time winner of the county championship, ran a 16:15.5 to best second place finisher Noah Calisti of Greensburg Salem and fellow Norwin Knight Dominic Spatolisano in third. A pair of Greater Latrobe Wildcats, Justin Carlson and Joseph Hill, rounded out the top five. The rest of the boys top ten were Jake Folaron and Matt Dongiavanni of Kiski Area, Trevor Verkleeren of Hempfield, Patrick Driscoll of Penn-Trafford, and Antonio Giordano of Kiski Area.

In the girls event, Greensburg Central Catholic sophomore Corinn Brewer ran a 18:54.1 race, easily besting her 2018 championship time of 19:31.5, and posted the only sub-20 minute time for the girls. Latrobe's Rachel Harter and Hempfield's Lily Schmadel followed up top-ten finishes last year to finish second and third. Jamie Tanto of Greensburg Salem and Lexie Planinsek completed the top five. The rest of the girls top ten were Greensburg Salem's Natalie DiCriscio, Hempfield's Kendra Winkleblech, Kiski Area's Lizeth Sesmas, Norwin's Katelyn Plassio, and Chloe Bonson of Penn-Trafford.

In the Junior Varsity race, Norwin swept the top three boys finishes with Phillip Sullivan, Gavin Hladek, and Colin Denny. Hempfield's Rebekah McFadden and Madison Shirrell-Brown finished 1-2 in the girls JV race with Norwin's Layla Robertson rounding out the top three.

The team championships in the large school category were won by the Norwin boys and Hempfield girls. Greensburg Salem swept the boys and girls team titles in the smaller schools category.

Unlike the 2018 race which was run under cloudy skies on a wet course, this year's event enjoyed sunny skies, pleasant temperatures, and dry course conditions.
