Cold 4th Quarter Costs Latrobe Girls in 45-37 Loss to Penn Hills

After leading for three quarters of a tight battle with Penn Hills, the Latrobe Lady Wildcats shooting went cold in the fourth, as they fell to Penn Hills 45-37 in a home game on Thursday, December 19. 

Latrobe trailed early against the Lady Indians, but recovered in the final minute of the opening quarter to lead 12-10 after the first 8 minutes had been played. Ava Vitula and Emma Blair each contributed half of the Cats' first quarter points. 

Latrobe expanded their lead by three in the second quarter, with Rachel Ridilla and Bailey Watson getting into the scoring column too. Latrobe led 25-20 at halftime with Amoni Blackwell leading Penn Hills scoring with 9.  

Penn Hills chipped away at Latrobe's lead in the third quarter, with Jayla Golden's pair of 3-pointers helping to cut the Latrobe lead to 33-32 with one quarter left to play. 

Then the Lady Wildcats hit a cold streak, managing only four points in the final quarter to the Lady Indians 13 among 5 players, and Penn Hills boarded the bus with a 45-37 in hand for their ride home. 

Amoni Blackwell and Niya Moore both finished with a dozen points for Penn Hills, and Jasmyn Golden had 11. Latrobe was led by Emma Blair's 14 and Ava Vitula's 13. 

With the win being in a Class 5A Section 3 tilt, Penn Hills improves their conference record to 2-0, and overall 2-4. Latrobe falls to 0-3 in conference, overall 2-4. Both teams play their next games at home in the new year, Latrobe hosting Laurel Highlands on 1/2 and Penn Hills hosting Uniontown on 1/3.
