Norwin Girls Hoops Beats Butler 66-28 on "Pink Out" Night

Norwin girls basketball maintained their quest for the section championship Wednesday night, remaining tied for first place in the WPIAL Class 6A Section 1 standings, with a 66-28 win over Butler at the Norwin High School gym. The team celebrated "Pink Out" night at the game, which was rescheduled from February 1 when it was postponed due to weather. 

Norwin jumped to a 19-8 lead after the opening quarter before building a 36-23 advantage at halftime. The Lady Knights broke the game open in the third quarter with a run of scoring opportunities off relentless defensive pressure, outpacing the Golden Tornadoes 21-2 to take a 57-25 lead into the final quarter. Norwin head coach Brian Brozeski rested his starters for much of the fourth quarter, as the team scored 9 points to Butler's 3, and the Knights cruised to the 66-28 win and season sweep of the Golden Tornadoes. 

Olivia Gribble led Norwin with 18 points, which came on six 3-pointers. Jessica Kolesar added 11, with Jayla Wehner and Cassie Cole each chipping in for 8 points. Alison Altman led Butler with 10 points. 

Norwin improves to 12-1 in section play, 19-1 overall, and shares the top spot in Section 1 with North Allegheny. The Knights close out their conference schedule Friday as they host Fox Chapel. Butler falls to 3-10 in section play, 7-12 overall, and travels to Seneca Valley for a section game on Thursday.
