Hempfield comes from behind to beat Baldwin 7-6 in their WPIAL Girl's Lacrosse game at Hempfield

Hempfield juniors Chelsi Iarussi  and Abby Fox each scored two second half goals on Baldwin goal tender Crista Sucevich, rallying the Lady Spartans from a two-goal deficit to earn a 7-6 victory over Baldwin in WPIAL Class 6A Section 2 action at Hempfield on April 08, 2019.  Fox led all Hempfield scorers with three goals on the night. Junior Hempfield goal tender Megan Nassif made some key saves in the final minutes of the game to preserve the Lady Spartan victory. Hempfield senior Vanessa Kline opened the scoring with a goal at the 20-minute mark of the opening half. Baldwin junior Darryn Sleeman tied the game at one when she scored a goal with eight minutes left in the first half.Baldwin junior Emily Rauch scored at the 4 minute mark of the first half giving the visiting Lady Highlanders a 2-1 lead over the home team. Only a few seconds later, Senior Sarah Burry snuck one past Hempfield goal tender Vanessa Kline to extend their first half lead to 3-1. Hempfield freshman Amara Forsyth wasted little time as she  scored a quick goal at 3:43 to start the first half comeback. Fox then scored her first goal of the night at 1:47 to tie the game at 3-3 as the first half came to an end. Baldwin sophomore Kaitlyn Pollard scored a goal two minutes into the second half to give the  Lady Highlanders a 4-3 lead. Less than three minutes later, Sleeman scored her second goal of the night to extend the Lady Highlanders led to 5-3. Hempfield’s Fox scored the first of her second half goals at 8:43 and Iarussi tied the score at 5-5 with her first goal of the night about 20 seconds later. Iarussi added a second goal at the 2:28 mark of the second half giving the home team the 6-5 lead. Fox added a much needed goal with 1:19 left in the game. Baldwin mounted a comeback attempt when Pollard scored her second goal of the night with only 25 seconds left in the game. The Lady Spartans were able to hold on for their third victory of the season. Hempfield improved their record to 3-1.
