The Westmoreland County Coaches Association held their annual Boys Basketball Summer Shootout on Friday, July 12, 2019, at Hempfield Area's Spartan Fieldhouse. The shootout is in its third year and continues to grow in participation, with 14 area teams suiting up this year, up from 12 teams in 2018.

A modified scoring system is used with most of the game played under a running clock consisting of two 20-minute halves. The clock only stops during the final minute of each half and for timeouts. The shootout is played mostly for fun and bragging rights, as official scorebooks are not kept and no overall champion is crowned, although the game scoring is kept on the scoreboards inside the gym. Teams played a minimum of two games.

The event is a great opportunity for fans and coaches to get an early look at the makeup of local teams for the upcoming season, before many of the players settle into training for fall sports. Participating teams included Derry Area, Southmoreland, Greensburg Central Catholic, Greensburg Salem, Kiski Area, Burrell, Monessen, Ligonier Valley, Connellsville, Valley, Latrobe, Norwin, Jeannette, and host Hempfield Area.

Our cameras covered part of the action featuring each team in attendance. A selection of photo highlights from the games are shown below. Full photo galleries featuring all of the games will be available on this site Sunday.
