Kiski Area Wins Record 13th WCCA Wrestling Team Title

If you're going to get a historical victory, there's no better place to celebrate than at home.

Tied with Greensburg Salem and Latrobe for the most team titles in event history with 12, Kiski Area went into the final day of the Westmoreland County Coaches’ Association wrestling tournament hoping to give their home fans something to cheer about. As the host school for the 67th edition of the WCCA's annual event, the Cavaliers certainly didn't disappoint.

Kiski Area used a strong second day performance, including putting a tournament leading 4 wrestlers on the top step of the podium, to win their 5th straight and 13th overall team title. Hempfield Area finished second and Norwin moved ahead of Day 1 leader Latrobe for third place. Burrell rounded out the top 5 behind Latrobe, and was the highest finishing Class AA school in the final standings.

Behind Kiski Area's four individual champions, Hempfield and Norwin both had three wrestlers crowned as best in their weight class, while Latrobe, Burrell, Frankin Regional and Greensburg Salem each had one.

A recap of the championship round is listed below. Full results of the tournament are linked here, with individual brackets, courtesy of FloWrestling.

Prior to the championship round, the Westmoreland County Coaches Association presented scholarship awards to deserving students from member schools.

Check out our large photos galleries of thousands of action photos from both days of the tournament. We make our best effort to capture photos of every wrestler who participated. All Day 1 photos are already online, Day 2 photos will be uploaded through the day on Sunday. Photos are in the order they were taken, and you can use the photos of scoring pylons that are seen in the galleries as reference to find bout numbers that were wrestling on the mat at a given time.
