Gia Scala Drops 21 as GCC Girls Cruise to 53-18 Win over Leechburg

Greensburg Central Catholic senior guard Gia Scala's 21 points was all the scoring the Lady Centurions would have needed Monday night, as she outscored the total points of Leechburg on her own, and GCC beat the Lady Blue Devils 53-18 in a Class 1A Section 3 home game in Carbon. 

GCC jumped out to a 14-6 lead after one quarter, with Scala scoring 8 of her game-high total in the opening frame. 

After GCC opened it up to start the second quarter, the Blue Devils enjoyed a brief run to close within 10, but the Lady Centurions stretched the lead out to 15 at halftime, taking a 27-12 lead to the locker room. 

GCC quickly put the game out of reach in the second half, outscoring the Lady Blue Devils 17-6 in the third, and blanking Leechburg 9-0 in the final frame. 

Behind Gia Scala's 21, eight other Lady Centurions got their name in the scoring column of the box score, with Laura Kondas adding her 8 points all in the second half. Leechburg, playing with a short bench of only two reserves, was led by Madison Ancosky's 8 points. 

GCC improves their section record to 3-0, with an overall 6-2 mark. Leechburg is 0-3 in section play. 1-8 overall. Both teams will have home games on Thursday January 9, with GCC hosting St. Joseph and Leechburg welcoming Propel Andrew Street.
