Southmoreland Girls Stomp Elizabeth Forward 71-38 for 12th Conference Win

Southmoreland's lady roundballers continued their impressive run through their 2019-2020 schedule, rolling over Elizabeth Forward 71-38 in front of a good sized home crowd on Thursday, January 30. It was the 19th win of the season for the undefeated Lady Scotties, and also bumps their Class 4A Section 3 record to 12-0.

The Lady Warriors grabbed an early 5-4 lead over Southmoreland when Anna Resnik hit a 3-point shot only 2- 1/2 minutes into the game. But the lead was short lived. By the next time the Warriors would score, 4 minutes had ticked off the clock and Southmoreland had gone on an 11-0 run, eventually closing out the quarter with a 19-7 lead. The Scotties matched their first quarter output in the second, using a 19-8 advantage to hold a 38-15 lead at halftime.

Continuing on their same scoring pace in the third quarter, Southmoreland added 19 to their tally while Elizabeth Forward's 11 points carried them into the final quarter down 31 points. Everyone on the Lady Scotties bench saw playing time in the game as starters were pulled late in the fourth, and Southmoreland sealed the 71-38 victory over the Warriors.

Southmoreland's Gracie Spadaro had game-high honors with 22 points, and Olivia Cernuto chipped in 14. Anna Resnik had 21 for Elizabeth Forward, including five 3-pointers. 

Southmoreland (19-0, 12,0) laces them up again on 2/3 as they host Belle Vernon in a section game. Elizabeth Forward has a quick turnaround as they host Uniontown in a non-conference game on 1/31.
