Norwin shuts out Hempfield 6-0 for season sweep in WPIAL Girls Soccer Action.

Norwin kept Hempfield from scoring a goal for the second time this season and easily defeated Hempfield 6-0 during a WPIAL Class 4A Section 3 conference game at Hempfield's Spartan Stadium on Oct. 07, 2020.

Norwin defeated Hempfield 5-0 earlier this season.

Norwin kept the ball in Hempfield's zone for most of the evening keeping Hempfield's goal tenders very busy during a mid-week contest in front of a socially distanced crowd.

Norwin senior Kennedy Soliday opened the scoring for the Knights when she scored on Hempfield senior goal tender Gillian Bierhals with 25:03 left in the first period of play.

Fellow senior Lacey Bernick then added two goals at the 8:42 mark and again with 1:15 left in the first half to distance the Knights from Hempfield taking a 3-0 lead into halftime.

Norwin relied on a pair of senior goal tenders to combine for the shutout.

Elizabeth Waszkiewicz minded the net in the first half and Riley Morningstar
took over in the second half.

After both teams returned from the intermission Norwin again applied plenty of pressure on the Hempfield defenders until senior Anna Durmis scored extending the lead to 4-0 with 29:20 left in the second half.

Norwin senior Marissa Boyer added a goal with 6:32 left to play in the second half and the Knights took a commanding 5-0 lead.

Junior Jenna McGuiness scored the final goal of the evening when she slipped the ball past Hempfield replacement goal tender Natalie Drexler with 3:26 left in the game.

The Knights shut out the Spartans 6-0 sweeping them on the season.

Norwin improved their season record to 6-2-1 and the conference record to 5-1-1.

Hempfield remains winless this season after registering their 10th loss of the season.

They have a conference record of 0-8.
