Boys Soccer - Franklin Regional vs Woodland Hills
Franklin Regional Mauls Woodland Hills 15-0 in Boys Soccer Season OpenerNine different players put tallies on the scoreboard, including a 4-goal performance for junior forward Anthony DiFalco, as Franklin Regional mauled Woodland Hills 15-0 in the boys soccer season opener on Monday, September 14, at Panther Stadium in Murrysville. The Panthers pounced on the Wolverines early and often, with an 8-goal opening half that prefaced a 6-goal second half performance for the defending back-to-back WPIAL champions. The entire second half was played under a constantly running game clock. Jake Kimmich broke the ice for the Panthers with his goal with just under 7 minutes elapsed in the contest. Anthony DiFalco notched his first of the game three minutes later after Wolverines' keeper Xander Busch came out to challenge him, and DiFalco juked past him for the tap in goal to make it 2-0. At times it looked like the Panthers were toying with the Wolverines as a cat does with a mouse, as they scored six goals with ease in a ten minute period to close the first half up 8-0. The goals were scored by Colton Hudson, DiFalco (2nd), Zach Lorenz, DiFalco (3rd), Billy Christafano, and Blake Cooper. The second half was no better for the visiting Wolverines as the suffocating defense of the Panthers assured that veteran senior goalkeeper Gianni Diacopoulos didn't have to work up a sweat in recording the shutout in goal. The Panthers added seven more goals to their tally as head coach Rand Hudson went deep into his bench in the second half. Second half goals were recorded by Cooper (2nd), Hudson (2nd), DiFalco (4th), a pair by Ethan Sadoski, (1st and 2nd), Dylan Tomb, and Jake Zimmerman. Next up for the Panthers (1-0-0) is a short trip across the county line to Gateway on September 16. Woodland Hills (0-1-0) will travel for their second of three consecutive road games when they visit West Mifflin on Wednesday.
