Norwin Girls Complete Season Sweep of Penn-Trafford 1-0

During most years in recent memory, the final Norwin vs. Penn-Trafford girls soccer matchup of the season determined the section champion. But this season the upstart Lady Wildcats of Greater Latrobe took the section title via their two conference wins over Norwin in earlier weeks. Those losses were the Lady Knights only blemishes of the season, but it took the section title off the table in the final Norwin game against Penn-Trafford. And while the 2021 section champion plaque was not at stake, the Knights and the Warriors battled each other like it was in their Class 4A Section 3 game on Tuesday, October 12, at Norwin's Knights Stadium. The Knights had won 3-0 at Penn-Trafford in their earlier matchup on September 25.

Fitting of past battles between the two perennial rivals, the game was scoreless well into the second half. With 11:06 remaining in the game, senior Paloma Swankler got behind the Warriors defense and slipped a shot past goalkeeper Taylor Lloyd, and the Lady Knights had the only point they needed to win the game.

Senior Riley Morningstar was flawless in guarding the goal for Norwin.

Norwin recognized their senior players in a pregame ceremony.

Both teams are back in action on Thursday, October 14. Norwin (11-2, 8-2) hosts Butler in a non-conference game, while Penn-Trafford (5-8, 4-6) will travel to Seneca Valley for a non-conference game.
