Latrobe Girls Snowball Franklin Regional in 50-18 Road Win

As the snow outside the Franklin Regional gymnasium accumulated at a steady rate, Greater Latrobe brought a blizzard indoors as they pummeled the Lady Panthers 50-18 in a Class 5A Section 4 girls basketball matchup on Monday, February 1, in Murrysville.

On the evening where Franklin Regional recognized their seniors prior to the game, the Lady Wildcats showed no mercy, jumping out to a 12-5 lead after one quarter. It would get much worse for the Lady Panthers from there.

Latrobe put up 21 second quarter points, while holding the Panthers scoreless, and held a commanding 33-5 halftime lead.

The third quarter offered no letup in the damage for the Panthers. The Wildcats added 15 to their lead while the Panthers finally ended their long scoring drought with a single field goal in the final seconds of the quarter to trail 48-7.

Both teams used their bench players heavily in the final quarter. Franklin Regional found their long range shot as they hit for three 3-pointers, along with a pair of free throws, to outscore Latrobe 11-2. But it was too little, too late, as Latrobe headed home in the snow with a 50-18 section win in their pocket.

Emma Blair had 14 and Anna Rafferty 12 for Latrobe, as the pair of tall Wildcats created havoc for the smaller lineup of the Panthers. Maria Brush was high scorer for the Panthers with 5.

Next up for Latrobe (6-1, 5-0) is a section matchup at McKeesport on 2/4. Franklin Regional (0-4, 0-3) has a road trip to Albert Gallatin on 2/4.
