Latrobe Boys Soccer Honors Seniors with 3-0 Win over HempfieldLatrobe boys soccer honored this senior players with first-half fireworks, scoring three times to beat the visitors from Hempfield 3-0 in their Class 4 Section 3 game on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Rossi Field in Unity Township. Prior to the game, Latrobe seniors Brennan Campbell, Will Casey, Anthony Fry, Ben Hamaty, Luke Hamaty, Nico Lorenzi, Nick Matro, Tanner Popella, and Isaac Shaker were recognized in a ceremony at midfield. Following the opening kick, it was a sophomore that got the Wildcats on the board as Devin Webster scored from Louis Garbeglio 13 minutes into the contest. Senior Nico Lorenzi added to the tally next with his goal, assisted by Benjamin Bigi, in the 35th minute. Louis Garbeglio added a goal of his own with 26.8 seconds remaining in the half. Hempfield had their best scoring opportunity of the half with only seconds remaining, but Latrobe goal keeper Tanner Popella made the save and was holding the ball in his arms when the horn ended the first half. Neither team found the back of the net in the second half, and Latrobe celebrated their 3-0 victory in front of the crowd, as goal keeper Popella recorded the clean sheet in the net. Next up for the Wildcats (2-6, 2-4 ) is a Monday home game with Central Catholic. The Spartans (0-5, 0-4) will travel to Penn-Trafford on Monday.
