Greensburg Central Cathlic handed Jeannette their first loss of the season with a decisive 11-2 victory.

Greensburg Central Cathlic handed Jeannette their first loss of the season with a decisive 11-2 victory at Centurion Stadium in Carbon on Tuesday Sept. 21, 2021.

Both teams held each other scoreless for nearly 16 minutes of their WPIAL Class 2A Section 2 match on a rainy night.

Greensburg Central Catholic freshman Ryan Skowronek opened the scoring for the Centurions with a goal on Jeannette junior goal keeper Mitchel Steele at the 24:49 mark of the opening period.

Junior Carlo Denis then added a second goal for the Centurions five minutes later and the Centurions took a 2-0 lead over their visiting rival.

Ten minutes later, Junior Tyler Neffield added a third goal for the home team providing a comfortable lead that they never relinquished.

The Jayhawks struggles in the opening period continued when they gave up two own goals extending the Centurions lead to 5-0 at halftime.

Jeannette junior Shane Mickens provided the visiting team with their first  scoring highlight of the evening when he scored on GCC freshman goal keeper Issac House four minutes into the second half making the score 5-1.

The Centurions added six unanswered goals including a hat trick by Centurion junior Mason Fabean and a second goal on the night for both Neffield and Denis.
Junior Kylar Miller added a lone goal as well.

GCC powered to an 11-1 lead until Jeannette's Mickens added another goal with seven minutes left in the contest making the score 11-2.

GCC improved their record to 5-1 overall and remained undefeated in their conference at 4-0.

Jeannette fell for the first time this season making their record 4-1 overall and 2-1 in their conference.
