Girls Soccer - Franklin Regional vs Hampton
Hampton Girls Soccer Outduels Franklin Regional 2-1
To quote baseball hall-of-famer Yogi Berra, '"It's deja vu all over again."
For the second year in a row, Hampton came into Franklin Regional's Panther Stadium and handed the Lady Panthers their first loss in Class 3A Section 1 play, beating the host team 2-1. The win comes on the back of the Talbots' 1-0 victory in 2020 that spoiled the Panthers undefeated regular season.
An evenly matched contest went deep into the first half before the Talbots broke the ice with senior Sophie Kelly's goal off a corner kick in the 35th minute. Hampton held the 1-0 advantage into halftime.
Franklin Regional evened the score just 86 seconds into the second half when senior Morgan Walters found the back of the net around Hampton goalkeeper Isabella English.
It looked like the match was headed for extra time when Madison Hurst scored past Panthers' keeper Aris Lamanna with just over 5 minutes remaining in the game. Hampton then held off the Panthers for the final minutes to secure their second win in a row at Franklin Regional.
The two teams are scheduled to meet again on October 6, where the Panthers claimed a 4-1 victory last season.
Franklin Regional falls to 2-1 in conference, 3-2 overall, and travels to Armstrong on 9/20. Hampton's conference record moves to 3-1, overall 3-2, and they are scheduled to host Chartiers Valley on 9/18.
