Ligonier Valley Rolls Over Frazier 33-6

In a ceremony before the game, Ligonier Valley football honored the individuals and organizations that were instrumental in funding the new scoreboard that now graces the friendly confines of Weller Field. And once the game got underway, the Rams gave that new scoreboard a workout, rolling to a 33-6 non-conference win over the visiting Frazier Commodores on a warm, muggy Friday evening in Ligonier.

After Ligonier Valley won the coin toss and deferred, Frazier took the opening kickoff but was unable to move the ball and was forced to punt. Ligonier Valley took over on the Frazier 36 yard line, but were unable to mount a drive and turned it back to Frazier after failing on a 4th-and-10. In fact, the Rams never punted all evening, choosing instead to roll the dice on all their 4th down situations.

When the Commodores were also forced to punt on their next possession, the Rams got their offense in gear. A Broderick Schreyer to Matt Marinchak pass completion, followed by solid running from Grant Dowden, set the Rams up with first-and ten at the Frazier 10 yard line. Schreyer hit Dowden in the end zone on the next play for a touchdown. George Golden booted the PAT and the Rams led 7-0 with 3:07 to play in the first.

Frazier tried to advance the ball through the air in the next drive, but it was picked off at the line of scrimmage by Ligonier Valley senior defensive lineman Jude Grzywinski, who rambled 35 yards for the pick-six. Golden was golden on the PAT and it was 14-0 Rams.

Ligonier Valley's third touchdown came at 8:37 of the second quarter as Miles Higgins went 29 yards to the endzone, but Golden's kick was wide, and the Rams led 20-0.

Frazier finally got on the scoreboard when, facing a 4th-and-ten at their own 35, they rolled the dice and Brayden Boggs hit Isaac Thomas in stride over the middle for the touchdown. The PAT was blocked, and the 20-6 score held up until halftime.

Ligonier Valley struck quickly in the third as Nick Beitel rushed for a 63-yard touchdown at the 11:06 mark. Golden added the PAT for a Rams 27-6 lead.

The Rams final points were added with 37 second left in the third as Schreyer went 16 yards to paydirt on a quarterback keeper, as Golden's PAT missed wide.

Neither team scored in the fourth quarter and Ligonier Valley remains undefeated with the 33-6 victory.

The Rams (4-0) are home again next week to host Carrick in a non-conference game, while the Commodores (0-4) will open conference play at home against McGuffey. Through four games, the Rams have outscored opponents 134-34.
