Football - Hempfield Area vs Greensburg Salem
Hempfield makes it 7-in-a-row with 45-6 win over Greensburg Salem.Hempfield Area won the battle of two head coaching debuts, as they beat crosstown rival Greensburg Salem 45-6 in a Week Zero football matchup on Friday, August 25, at Hempfield's Spartan Stadium. The game marked the 7th consecutive win for the Spartans in their long-standing rivalry with the Golden Lions. Hempfield Area head coach Nick Keefer notched his first career head coaching victory, as Greensburg Salem head coach Ty George, a Hempfield graduate, will have to wait at least a week to get his first head coaching win. Both teams experienced sloppy play and penalties early on, with Hempfield eventually getting on track for four first-half touchdowns. Greensburg Salem's sole touchdown came in the second quarter, but the two-point conversion failed. Hempfield tacked on 17 additional points in the second half. Rogan Katchur scored three rushing touchdowns to lead the Spartans scoring. Hempfield goes on the road next Friday for a game at Connellsville, while Greensburg Salem travels to Derry Area.
