Latrobe decisively defeats neighboring Derry 56-14 in week zero.

Latrobe quarterback John Wetzel threw four touchdown passes and also registered an interception in the Wildcat's domninant victory over Derry at Memorial Stadium on Friday night, August 25, 2023.

Wetzel threw a pair of TD passes to Jack Drnjevich and an opening score to Ja’Tawn Williams, who also registred a pick-6, helping the Wildcats take a 42-0 lead into halftime.

Derry managed to get onto the board twice in the second half as the mercy rule was in effect. The Trojans' losing streak extended to 20 games with the 56-14 loss to open the season.

Latrobe will look for similar results when they stay home to battle Franklin Regional next week.

Derry hopes to right the ship when they return home to host Greensburg Salem next week.
