Gianna Johnson and Franklin Regional win 2023 WCCA Girls Golf Championship

Franklin Regional sophomore Gianna Johnson claimed the gold medal and led Franklin Regional to a third straight team title at the 2023 Westmoreland County Coaches Association Girls Golf Championship on Thursday, September 8, 2023, at Champion Lakes Golf Club in Bolivar.

Johnson's 4-over-par 40 on the front nine put her in a tie with last year's champion, Izabela Aigner of Greensburg Central Catholic. Johnson was determined to be the winner based on a scorecard playoff in which she bested Aigner on the deciding 4th hole. Johnson improved on her third place finish and 43 score in 2022 event, which was played on the back nine, when Aigner shot a 1-under 36 to win.

Third place went to Hempfield Area's Milana Yannascoli with a 42, followed by Penn-Trafford’s Saylor Kaminski and Mt. Pleasant’s Emily Eutsey each with 45. Sixth and seventh place finishers were Franklin Regional's Mia Snyder and Ali Boyle with 46. Ligonier Valley’s Addy Witcoski and Penn-Trafford’s Amanda Bobich and Antolena Damico were 8th through 10th with a 48.

Franklin Regional, with 3 of the top 7 finishers, three-peated to win the team trophy by 9 strokes with a score of 182. Penn-Trafford was second at 191, followed by Greensburg Central Catholic at 196, Hempfield at 197 and Mt. Pleasant with 200.
