2023 WCCA Boys Golf Championships

Penn-Trafford's Nick Turowski repeats as WCCA Boys Golf Champion; Penn-Trafford and GCC win team titles.

Penn-Trafford senior Nick Turowski paced the field with a blistering 4-under par 68 to claim the top spot at the 2023 Westmoreland County Coaches Association Boys Golf Championships held Thursday, August 31, 2023, at Latrobe Elks Golf Club. It was Turowski's second WCCA title in three years, after winning the 2021 event with a 1-under par 71. He also shaved 5 strokes off his runner-up finish in the 2022 event, which was won by Derry Area's Hunter Jurica.

Turowski finished 6 strokes ahead of runner-up Braden Riley of Greensburg Central Catholic who had 74, with Jordan Mocello of Belle Vernon third at 75.

Scorecard playoffs determined the rest of the top ten individual places. Parker Berk of Greater Latrobe was 4th, Seth Tomulski of Belle Vernon 5th, and David Newson of Penn-Trafford 6th, all posting rounds of 76. Places 7 through 10 went to JM Krajc of Greater Latrobe, Mike Mullany of GCC, Braedy Mastine of Penn Trafford, and Luke Anderchak of Franklin Regional, all with 77.

Turowski and Riley also led their teams to championship trophies for the school display case. Penn-Trafford claimed the AAA schools title with a score of 380. Greater Latrobe was second with 398 and Franklin Regional third at 404. GCC's 398 topped the AA schools, with Belle Vernon second at 407 and Ligonier Valley third at 426.

Golfers from Belle Vernon, Burrell, Derry Area, Franklin Regional, Greater Latrobe, Greensburg Central Catholic, Greensburg Salem, Hempfield Area, Kiski Area, Kiski School, Ligonier Valley, Mt. Pleasant, Norwin, Penn-Trafford, Southmoreland, and Valley participated.

The 2023 WCCA Girls Golf Championships will be held Thursday, September 7, at Champion Lakes.
