Greater Latrobe Wins 3rd Straight WCCA Wrestling Championship
Greater Latrobe led all schools with 3 individual champions on their way to a third consecutive team championship at the 2024 Westmoreland County Coaches Association Wrestling Championships on Saturday, January 6, at Greensburg Salem High School in Greensburg. The Wildcats topped runner-up Franklin Regional 189 to 180.5. Rounding out the top five teams were Burrell at 156.5, Mount Pleasant at 154, and Kiski Area with 140 points.
Seniors Eli Carr of Hempfield and Juliano Marion of Franklin Regional, and junior Luke Willochell of Greater Latrobe, added their names to the list of three-time individual WCCA champions. Willochell, who recorded his 100th career win, can attempt to join a distinguished group of only 13 prior 4-time champions at the 72nd edition of the WCCA Championships next year.
Participating schools were Greater Latrobe, Franklin Regional, Burrell, Mount Pleasant, Kiski Area, Penn-Trafford, Derry Area, Hempfield Area, Belle Vernon Area, Southmoreland, Valley, Greensburg Salem, Kiski School, Ligonier Valley, and Yough.
The WCCA presented several scholarship awards to athletes prior to the semi-final round.
