Two First-Time Individual Champions Crowned at 2024 WCCA Cross Country Championships

In a day of firsts, two first-time champions were crowned at the 2024 edition of the Westmoreland County Coaches Association Cross Country Championships on Wednesday, October 9, on the course at the WCCC Youngwood campus.

Penn-Trafford senior Jake McGhee crossed the finish line first in 16:14.30, a new meet record, to win the boys varsity race. McGhee edged a pair of Norwin runners, Enzo Jiancristoforo and Luke Simpson, who finished close behind in 16:16.90 and 16:19.50 respectively. Rounding out the top five were the champion of the past two years, Samuel Plazio of Kiski Area, and Norwin's Thomas Gaydos.

In the girls varsity race, Greater Latrobe senior Emerson Skatell easily outpaced the next closest finisher with a winning time of 18:41.10. Norwin's Annie Czajkowski was runner-up in 19:09.10, followed by Lauren Ciuca of Kiski Area at 19:25.90. Latrobe's Carley Berk was fourth and Norwin's Addison Farrah was fifth.

In the battle for team trophies, Norwin claimed the boys and girls 3A team titles, while Greensburg Central Catholic won 2A boys, and Greensburg Salem was the winner in 2A girls.
