Big Fourth Quarter Runs Power Latrobe to 14-0 Win over Armstrong
In a game that was much closer than the final score indicates, Greater Latrobe snapped a 7- 1/2 quarter scoring drought with a pair of big fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns to beat Armstrong 14-0 on Friday, September 20, at Memorial Stadium in Latrobe.
It looked like the Wildcats had their offense going from the opening possession when Alex Tatsch took the first play from scrimmage for a 42 yard gain into Armstrong territory. But the Latrobe drive stalled, and they put no points on the board as they were forced to punt to the River Hawks. What followed was over three quarters of both teams stalled drives and exchanging possessions, with the closest scoring threat a botched Armstrong field goal attempt in the third quarter.
Latrobe finally broke the deadlock when quarterback John Wetzel rambled 34 yards on a keeper with 5:35 left in the game. Roman Agostoni's PAT kick made the score 7-0.
When Armstrong failed to capitalize on the next possession, the Wildcats put the icing on the scoring cake with a 34-yard Brady Prohovic rushing touchdown with 2:04 remaining on the clock. Agostoni connected on the extra point, and Latrobe led 14-0. Armstrong turned the ball over on downs on their final possession, and the Wildcats ran out the clock from the victory formation to even their conference record at 1-1.
Alex Tatsch, who had limited playing time in the game, led the rushing effort with 117 yards on 14 carries.
Next up for Latrobe (4-1, 1-1) is a home game with Woodland Hills, while Armstrong (2-3, 0-1) will host Gateway.
